Possibilities and prospects of the Croatian economy were the main topics of a theme session of the ninth "North and South Europe" Economic Forum in Izmir on Monday.
The session was moderated by Erhard Busek, a former special coordinator of the Stability Pact for Southeast Europe, who said Croatia was an example of a success story in the region.
Croatia's economic situation and possibilities of foreign investment were presented by Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, the president of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, Nadan Vidoševic, and Croatian Ambassador to Turkey Gordan Bakota.
Due to the war, Croatia paid a high price in the economy as well, Croatian President emphasized, adding that Croatia was opening to the world in every aspect, including the economy.
Croatia's future is in production, and exporting must become our most significant product, President Mesic stated concluding his presentation.
Vidoševic presented Croatia's political and economic profile, as well as the priorities of the Croatian government. Croatia offers big possibilities for foreign investments, notably in agriculture, tourism and shipbuilding, he said, adding that the biggest problem was the country's high import-export imbalance.
Participants in the session were especially interested in possibilities of concrete investments and the economic and political climate in Croatia.
