Minister Pusić talks economic cooperation with Turkmen officials

(Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic said on Monday, the first day of her visit to Turkmenistan, that there were chances of that country commissioning more ships from Croatian shipyards, in addition to those already being built. The Uljanik shipyard is building two vessels for a Turkmen client, and Pusic said that she and Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov had discussed a possible order for two train ferries. The talks with Berdimuhammedov and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov also focused on the possibility of Croatian companies building a new port in the city of Turkmenbasy, on infrastructure and IT projects, and on cooperation in energy, science and higher education. "With the Minister of Foreign Affairs we have agreed all areas of cooperation and details for the preparation of a framework agreement on projects in shipbuilding, energy, infrastructure, information technology, and higher education and science," Pusic said. Cooperation with Turkmenistan will be facilitated by the Croatian government"s decision to lift visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and special passports. Apart from Turkmenistan, Pusic is also scheduled to visit Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, and the purpose of her Central Asia and Caucasus tour is to strengthen economic cooperation.
