WORLD HERITAGE SITES IN CROATIA

Croatia is geographically a small country, but is very rich in cultural heritage and natural beauty. The exhibition “World Heritage Sites in Croatia”, co-organized by the Consulate General of Croatia and Beyoglu Belediyesi, will show the Istanbul audience selected photographs of the seven Croatian sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In their majority they are ancient towns on the Adriatic coast: the city of Split, which developed from the Palace of the Roman emperor Diocletian; the old city of Dubrovnik; the Euphrasian Basilica of Byzantine origin in Porec; the old city of Trogir and the renaissance Cathedral of Saint James in šibenik. There is also an ancient agricultural landscape still in use today- the Stari Grad Plain on the island of Hvar, and the Plitvice Lakes, a series of turquoise-coloured connecting lakes and waterfalls in the mountainous region of Croatia. As a head conservator said – „we hope that this exhibition will show what Croatia has contributed to the world heritage and what it has done to preserve it for future generations“. The exhibition is open from January 3 to 25, 2014 in Beyoglu Belediye Sanat Galerisi, Istiklal Caddesi no. 217, Istanbul.
