Croatian-Turkish bilateral relations

Political relations between the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Turkey are continuously cordial, stable and without open issues. Co-operation with Turkey insures a important international partner for Croatia. Mutual relations are successfully developing in the bilateral, regional and multilateral fields. Such character of relation is determined by frequent contacts and dynamical dialog on all levels which representatives of both countries realize on political, economical and cultural area, as well as constant development of parliamentary co-operation to which both countries give great significance. In the last few years Croatia and Turkey exchanged bilateral visits on all governmental levels. President of the Republic of Croatia visited Turkey in 2006, Speaker of the Croatian Parliament visited Turkey in 2008, Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia visited Turkey in 2009. President of the Republic of Turkey visited Croatia in 2007, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey visited Croatia in 2008, Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey visited Croatia in 2008. Parallel to highest bilateral visits, on the governmental level the ministries of both countries are pursuing regular visits on the ministerial level as well as the experts' levels. The Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Croatia maintain regular bilateral consultations regarding the EU accession process. Croatia and Turkey have significant level of cooperation in multilateral organizations. In the UN, NATO and SEECP Croatia and Turkey share common stance with regard to international, as well as regional open issues. With regard to the common region of the Southeast Europe mutual activity of our two countries is focused on the initiatives which will bring security and lasting stability. Two countries agree that Euro-Atlantic perspective for all countries the Southeast Europe is the important impulse for the permanent stability and safety. State administration of the Republic of Turkey Parliament Republic of Turkey is a parliamentary republic. According to the Constitution from year 1982, legislative power is vested in the unicameral parliament (the Grand National Assembly of Turkey) that has 542 members. Members of the parliament are elected to a five-year term, by a party-list proportional representation, with election threshold of 10%. Universal suffrage is applied throughout Turkey for both sexes. The Speaker of the Parliament is Mehmet Ali Sahin (AKP). President of the state President is elected by the parliament, for a seven-year term, without possibility for re-election. President of the state is Abdullah Gül (elected 2007). Parliamentary political parties - Justice and Development Party (AKP) President: Recep Tayyip Erdogan The party won 46,54% of votes on the last parliamentary elections, and has 337 representatives in the parliament. - Republican People's Party (CHP) President: Kemal Kiliçdaroglu The party won 20,79% of votes on the last parliamentary elections, and has 97 representatives in the parliament. - Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) President: Devlet Bahceli The party won 14,25% of votes on the last parliamentary elections, and has 69 representatives in the parliament. - Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) President: Demir Celik The party was formed after the dissolution of the Democratic Society Party in 2009, and has 20 representatives in the parliament. - Democratic Left Party (DSP) President: Masum Turker The has 6 representatives in the parliament. - Democratic Party (DP) President: Husamettin Cindoruk The has 1 representative in the parliament. - Turkey Party (TP) President: Abdullatif Sener The has 1 representative in the parliament.
