Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, during her official visit to Canada, met 22 November 2006 in Ottawa with the Speaker of the Canadian Parliament's House of Commons, Peter Milliken, and Speaker of the Canadian Senate Noël Kinsella, at the state lunch with other senators and MPs, that will be followed by Minister Grabar-Kitarovic being presented to the Senate and the House of Commons, and her participation in the Question Period.
Minister Grabar-Kitarovic informed House of Commons' Speaker Milliken about the current political situation in Croatia. As regards the bilateral relations, Minister Grabar-Kitarovic expressed her satisfaction with the co-operation, pointing out that Croatia greatly appreciates and is thankful for Canada's assistance in mining clearance and the projects realised through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). She also noted that the two countries are co-operating in numerous other fields and that there are possibilities for development of bilateral relations in economy.
Minister Grabar-Kitarovic expressed her satisfaction with the two countries' co-operation within the peacekeeping missions, namely ISAF in Afghanistan. Minister Grabar-Kitarovic said she is looking forward to the further development of the co-operation, both on the bilateral level and within multilateral forums, such as the UN and OSCE.
House of Commons' Speaker Milliken said that Croatia has made a noteworthy progress, stating his satisfaction with the level of co-operation between the two countries and expressing his interest for the further intensification of the relations in all fields.
The two noted the 6th meeting of the states signatories of the Ottawa Convention, held 28 November-2 December 2005 in Zagreb, which showed the international community's recognition for Croatia's efforts and accomplishments in mine action.
