The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Croatia expresses concern over Taiwan’s recent proposal to hold a referendum on joining the United Nations entitled “Taiwan”, which does not contribute to the peace in stability in the region.

By signing the Protocol on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations with the People’s Republic of China on 13 May 1992, the Republic of Croatia accepted the One-China principle, founded on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the People’s Republic of China, as well as the position on Taiwan being its constituent part, with which peaceful unity is to be reached in accordance with the one country – two systems model.

The Joint Statement signed in May 2005 defines the bilateral relations between the Republic of Croatia and the People’s Republic of China as the “partnership in co-operation”, stating that Croatia will continue to support the One-China policy and all the related positions stemming from it, consider the solution to the Taiwan issue China’s internal matter, oppose Tai independence, and support the peaceful unification of China.
