Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Gordan Jandroković on an Official Visit to Albania

The Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandroković, paid an official visit to the Republic of Albania on 8 and 9 June 2026, during which he met with the President of the Republic of Albania, Bajram Begaj, the Speaker of the Parliament, Niko Peleshi, and the Prime Minister, Edi Rama.
The meetings confirmed the high level of bilateral relations between Croatia and Albania, founded on a long-standing friendship, NATO alliance, and a shared commitment to European values. The interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the continued development of political cooperation, as well as the strengthening of economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
Particular emphasis was placed on the European Union enlargement process and the European perspective of the countries of South-East Europe. Speaker Jandroković congratulated Albania on the significant progress achieved in its EU accession negotiations, stressing that these results demonstrate the commitment of Albanian institutions to reforms and European integration. He reiterated that Croatia would continue to strongly support Albania on its path towards EU membership by sharing its own experience gained during the accession process.
In his meeting with President Bajram Begaj, special attention was devoted to defence cooperation. The importance of the Trilateral Declaration on Defence Cooperation between Croatia, Albania and Kosovo was highlighted as a significant contribution to regional security and the interoperability of allies. The two sides also exchanged views on economic cooperation, tourism, transport connectivity and strategic energy projects in the region, including the Adriatic-Ionian Corridor, the Ionian-Adriatic Pipeline, and LNG projects in Croatia and Albania. Discussions also focused on current geopolitical developments and security challenges in Europe and the region, underlining the importance of cooperation within NATO and joint efforts to preserve stability in South-East Europe.
During the meeting with Speaker of the Parliament Niko Peleshi, the excellent and friendly relations between the two countries, based on shared values and interests, were reaffirmed. The importance of further strengthening parliamentary cooperation through more frequent contacts at all levels, including cooperation between parliamentary committees and professional services of the two parliaments, was emphasized. The discussions also covered opportunities to enhance economic cooperation, particularly in the fields of energy, infrastructure, tourism, digitalisation and the defence industry. Speaker Jandroković praised Albania’s progress towards EU membership and reiterated Croatia’s full support for the completion of accession negotiations, for which Speaker Peleshi expressed his gratitude.
During the talks with Prime Minister Edi Rama, the friendly relations and very good bilateral cooperation between Croatia and Albania were reaffirmed. The interlocutors noted that the numerous high-level meetings held in recent years testify to the continuous strengthening of relations between the two countries. Prime Minister Rama presented the latest developments regarding Albania’s EU accession negotiations, while Speaker Jandroković congratulated Albania on the remarkable progress achieved on its European path and emphasized that Croatia would continue to provide support by sharing its experience from the EU accession process. The discussion also addressed the stability and European perspective of South-East Europe, as well as the importance of improving transport connectivity between Croatia and Albania, particularly through air links, as a prerequisite for stronger economic and tourism cooperation.
The official visit of the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament once again confirmed the excellent relations between Croatia and Albania, as well as their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation, stability and the European future of South-East Europe.
