Miro Gavran Represented Croatia at the European Literature Festival in Tirana
At the invitation of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Tirana, writer Miro Gavran represented Croatia at the European Literature Festival held in Tirana from December 12 to 14. The festival was organized by the Delegation of the European Union in Albania, with the participation of several embassies, including the Croatian Embassy.
During a one-hour program moderated by theater and film director Andi Begolli, Gavran presented his rich literary and theatrical work. He spoke about his beginnings, the motives and themes that characterize his creations, as well as the importance of literature and theater in the contemporary world. He particularly emphasized the importance of translating works by European authors into different languages. In this context, he highlighted that six of his books have been translated into Albanian and that his plays are performed in Albania as well.
The festival also provided an opportunity for actresses Luiza Xhuvani and Ilirda Bejleri to perform excerpts from Gavran’s play The Loves of George Washington, which was staged in Tirana in April and May under the direction of Andi Begolli.
In addition to Gavran, writers from France, Greece, Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, and Ireland also participated in the festival.
This was the first European Literature Festival in Tirana. Due to its significance and the importance of cultural cooperation, as well as the fact that Miro Gavran performed at the festival, Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Dr. Gordan Grlić Radman sent his envoy, Prof. Dr. Vanda Babić Galić, to the event.
