Teaching of the Croatian language begins at the University in Istanbul

Following the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia and Istanbul University, signed in November of last year, the teaching of the Croatian language has commenced at Istanbul University. Croatian, one of the official languages of the European Union, is offered as an elective course carrying 5 ECTS credits.

As part of the European Day of Languages, a lecture on "Language as a Common, Public, and Shared Good" by Prof. Dr. Marko Alerić and "The Croatian Language in Historical Context" by Prof. Dr. Tamara Gazdić Alerić was held in the ceremonial hall of the Faculty, with the participation of the dean of the Faculty of Literature, Prof. Dr. Sevtap Kadıoğlu, and a large number of professors and students.

Consul General Dr. Ivana Zerec also addressed the students, highlighting the fact that the Croatian language is one of the official working languages of the EU. She mentioned that Croatia is celebrating the 10th anniversary of joining the EU this year and has entered the Schengen area and the Eurozone. General information about the Croatian language, the number of speakers, and its distribution was provided by the lecturer Nataša Veinović, Prof.
