Parliamentary and economic cooperation, cooperation between Canadian and Croatian universities, Croatia’s EU accession process and presidential elections were the main topics of the meeting between Minister Jandroković and Senate Speaker Kinsella.

Minister Jandroković pointed out that in the 18 years since the establishment of Croatia-Canada relations numerous highest-level bilateral visits had been held, further strengthening the two countries’ friendly relations based on mutual respect and understanding. All of this has contributed to Canada’s canceling of tourist visas for Croatian citizens, said Minister Jandroković, thanking Senate Speaker Kinsella for his personal engagement in liberalizing the visa regime and enhancing Croatia-Canada bilateral relations.

The collocutors also pointed out the numerous ties between the two countries: some 250,000 Canadians of Croatian descent, the economic partnership between Croatia and Canada, joint interests within NATO, where the two countries are equal partners in the promotion and preservation of democracy, peace and global security, as well as the joint efforts within the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan.

Minister Jandroković informed his collocutor about the current state of Croatia’s EU accession negotiations and its past achievements to that end.

Senate Speaker Kinsella organized a working lunch for Minister Jandroković that, apart from the members of the Croatian delegation, saw the presence of numerous members of the Canadian Parliament and members of the Canadian academic community.

As part of his visit to Canada, Minister Jandroković met yesterday with Speaker of the House of Commons Peter Milliken, who during today’s question time presented Minister Jandroković to the members of the Canadian House of Commons.
