Ambassador Mihelin Participated in the Opening Ceremony of the 12th World Games and Met with Croatian Athletes

Chengdu, August 7-8, 2025. The 12th World Games, which will be held from August 7 to 17, 2025 under the slogan "Boundless Sports, Countless Wonders", were officially opened on the evening of August 7, 2025 in the capital of Sichuan Province. The World Games are an international sporting event that includes sports that are not competed in the Olympic Games. A record 3,942 athletes from 116 countries and regions will participate in these Games in 256 disciplines in 34 sports, including floorball, cheerleading, flying discus, powerlifting, archery, sport climbing, fistball and squash.
 
The Croatian Team at the Games consists of 40 athletes, along with almost twenty support staff members, in ten sports, from karate, squash, sambo, boules, archery, free diving, cheerleading, to beach handball. So far, the medals have been won by karate players, Ema Sgardelli bronze and brothers Ivan and Anđelo Kvesić silver, as well as Vanja Peleš in free diving. Ambassador Mihelin met with the karate players during his stay in Chengdu and followed their competition.
 
The World Games are held every four years, one year after the Summer Olympics, the previous ones were held in 2022 (postponed from 2021 due to the restrictive conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic) in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, and the next are held in 2029 in Karlsruhe, Germany. The World Games are managed by the International World Games Association, under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee.
