About the Three Seas Initiative
The Three Seas Initiative (3SI) is a political and economic platform that brings together 13 EU Member States - Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia - located between the Baltic Sea, the Adriatic Sea and the Black Sea.
Its associated participating states are Albania, Moldova, Montenegro and Ukraine and its strategic partners include the European Commission, Germany, Japan, Spain, Türkiye and USA.
The Initiative aims to strengthen regional cooperation and connectivity in three key strategic areas:
- energy;
- transport;
- digital infrastructure.
By enhancing north-south connectivity, the 3SI contributes to economic growth, energy security, regional resilience and deeper integration within the EU.
The 3SI region represents a market of approximately 120 million people and, if considered as a single economy, would rank among the largest economies globally.
